The 70m Quillon motoryacht concept is the latest to come from the drawing board of American industrial designer Scott Henderson. It is one of two new designs to follow on from his first concept, Priona.

The design was inspired by the protective guard of a saber sword or scabbard, known as a Quillon, which is located between the base of the blade and the handle of the sword. “Quillon features a protective arched structure that leans backward to surround and protect the three upper decks,” reveals Henderson.

The designer goes on to explain how the arched structure, which connects to the hull at the stern and extends to the sundeck, offers protection for guests when using the infinity pool and sun bathing area, aft of the main deck. “Unlike a traditional superyacht design, the hull wraps up and over the top of the vessel as one continuous surface,” says Henderson.

Additional space is provided for on the main deck thanks to a swim platform that slides out at the stern, allowing guests to get closer to the sea. “The pool is flanked by cascading staircases on either side that lead to the large retractable swim platform, which has hinged compartments that allow two jet skis to be stored inside of it.”

A Jacuzzi towards the bow offers guests another area to relax and connects directly to the main salon. Guest accommodation is provided for on the lower deck, with the owner’s deck situated on the upper deck.
